QUESTION
How long will my extensions last?
ANSWER
If you look after your hair extensions as recommended they should last for three months if not longer. Often when your old extensions are removed they can be re-used.
QUESTION
How much will my extensions cost?
ANSWER
It is difficult to give a definitive cost before a proper consultation. They start from as little as £2.00 for one extension (this normally only applies when a client just requires four or five funky colours put in) up to as much as £850.00 if you where to have a full head of extremely long extensions in the best quality human hair for example. Most people have ½ to ¾ head with medium to bra length hair and an average cost is between £250.00 and £450.00, but the price very much depends on how many extensions are needed for the desired look, what quality hair is used, what length extensions and obviously how long it is going to take to apply the extensions. Blond hair normally works out a little more expensive than dark colours, as the hair processing stage is more intense making the hair more expensive to purchase.
Because I am freelance I do not have huge salon overheads and therefore my prices are reasonable but you will still receive a personal and professional service and I am always just on the end of the phone.
My prices are inclusive of a checkup appointment 1 week after application and include the removal cost.
After a FREE consultation I am able to provide a definitive cost.
QUESTION
What does the consultation consist of?
ANSWER
At your FREE consultation I will ascertain your desired look and discuss hair types, length, colours and any budget with you. If the desired hair colour cannot be matched to existing colours (off the shelf colours) then I provide a FREE OF CHARGE colour matching service to ensure the exact colour match is obtained. This is where I take a small cutting of your hair for the experts to match perfectly. I will discuss how the extensions are applied and I will talk to you about aftercare and maintenance. Once we have discussed all aspects and you are happy with the quoted cost I will ask you for a deposit and your hair will be ordered and an application appointment booked.
QUESTION
How long does it take to apply hair extensions?
ANSWER
Again, it is difficult to state a time before a proper consultation but it varies between 2 and 6 hours depending on the style, length and thickness desired.
QUESTION
Where does the hair come from?
ANSWER
The hair comes from Asia and Europe. It is given by people who have had their hair cut for many difference reasons the main reasons being either for monetary gain or for religious belief. The hair that I purchase for my clients comes from a reputable company in the United Kingdom with over 60 years experience of working with hair. The hair is boiled and treated and coloured before it is sent to me, so I receive the hair in a lovely condition.
QUESTION
Will it feel like I have someone else’s hair?
ANSWER
Once you have purchased the hair it is obviously yours. But as I have had hair extensions in myself for over a year I am able to tell you that once you wash your new hair for the first time and dry and style it your way with your own tools and products the hair then feels like yours.
QUESTION
Will it hurt to have them in?
ANSWER
NO they should not hurt. They will take about 1 week to settledown properly and they might feel a little alien, but after a week you will forget you have them in.
QUESTION
How long a length can I have them – is there a limit?
ANSWER
Yes there is a limit. The length that you can go is dictated slightly by the length of your natural hair. If you have quite short hair then waist length hair would not look right and also be too much for you to cope with for your first application. However, if your hair is already below shoulder length then 20inch extension hair would feel long. You are able to go longer, but this is not always advisable for your first application.
QUESTION
Will my extensions feel insecure and fall out?
ANSWER
After having your extensions applied you will at some point lose a few scattered extensions. This is completely normal and is nothing to worry about and you should not even be able to notice where they have come from on your head. You will find that you will generally lose one or two during shampooing and styling. If these extensions come out with the bond still attached, put them in a safe place and it is possible that I can re-use them for you at your next maintenance appointment. Any strands lost without a bond cannot be re-used
Provided you follow the aftercare advice your bonds should feel secure and I will obviously keep my eye on your bonds at your maintenance appointments.
QUESTION
What is a maintenance appointment?
ANSWER
It is advisable to have regular maintenance appointments. At these appointments I will replace any lost extensions (either with saved extensions or new hair), separate any bonds that have locked together and give your hair a good overhaul. Regular maintenance appointments help to keep your hair looking nice and it is also peace of mind for you that an expert is looking after you.
Maintenance can vary between every 4 to 6 weeks and costs between £40.00 and £80.00. Maintenance costs can be reduced by keeping any extensions that come out with the bonds still attached.
QUESTION
Are extensions easy to look after?
ANSWER
Once you get in a routine you will be fine. The only real rules are to abide by the aftercare advice and to allow yourself more time when you are shampooing and styling your new hair style.
QUESTION
Will I still need to have my hair cut & coloured when I have my extensions in?
ANSWER
If you have your natural hair tinted or highlighted before you have your extensions applied you will of course still need your natural hair touched up as usual, however seek my advice beforehand. It is probably best to have your extensions coloured by a professional salon, as you have to bear in mind that your extension hair has already been processed so you have to be careful with applying colour and semi-permanent colours are only recommended. It is also strongly advised that a hair sample test is done before any colour is applied.
It is strongly requested that you consult me before colouring otherwise any guarantee on your new hair would not be valid if colouring was carried out prior to advice or against my advice.
Hair extensions can be used as non permanent highlights and lowlights.
If you tint your hair and your extensions are coloured matched you will find that the extension hair will hold the colour much better than your natural hair meaning that you will only ever have to have your roots tinted.
Your own hair will obviously still grow whilst your extensions are in so you will still need to get your hair trimmed at the hairdressers. In fact, the cut is an important part of having extensions in, as having your hair cut finishes the whole look off ensuring that your extensions blend well with your natural hair.
QUESTION
Can I use straightening Irons on my extensions?
ANSWER
Curling tongs and straightening irons can be used on your new hair, but avoid direct contact with your bonds as this will distort the bonds and can soften them and make them feel sticky.
QUESTION
Will I have to purchase special products for my hair extensions?
ANSWER
Most products can be used on your new hair, but avoid direct contact with your bonds especially with serums as this can make the bonds soft. You can spray your hair with hairspray and it is advisable to use a hairspray that can easily be brushed out, as you do not then get too much of a build of products on your hair.
I WILL RECOMMEND PRODUCTS TO YOU.
The most important thing to purchase is the correct brush and I will advise you in this respect also.
